anticipation

December 4, 2008

I have such sweet childhood memories of opening up our advent calendar's tiny chocolate-filled doors and clamoring for the chance (I've got three brothers) to pop that little morsel into my mouth. This year I decided to get all crafty and make one myself.

I created these paper calendar pockets using a pad of Ellen Krans Christmas cardstock from Michaels (I started off by printing my own patterned paper but decided to finish this before next Christmas). Feeling industrious, I sewed a simple stitch to close the edges.

Every tiny pocket is filled with something for us to do each day of advent (bake cookies, write letters to Santa, call Papa and Gram, make wrapping paper).

No chocolate, but lots of sweet memories in store for my little family...

Why oh why did I not see this last week?!?!?! I had so wanted to make an advent calendar for my kiddos, had tons of ideas. But none that were both good and possible to finish prior to December 1st! So I caved and bought a cheapy cardboard advent calendar at Target.

I love yours - beautiful and fun. I'm jealous and plan to copy it for next Christmas.

Oh, meant to add that once again you captured a beautiful candid shot of your kids! How do you always do that? Seriously, it looks like they are sitting in a Pottery Barn catalog! Here I am jealous of you again!!!

Funny thing is we were just discussing your lovely kiddo photos on my blog today!

Go ahead and do it! You just fast foward a few days! The kids won't mind (mine would never even know the difference). I just got mine up yesterday!

Those two kids are just a riot together. If they aren't crying, they're laughing. I just have my camera ready ;)

Awesome project and ADORABLE kids (and pic!). Mine are the same way- either you'll get the shot or it just won't happen.

Beautiful project - and as always, great photo of the kids underneath it. I echo the sentiments above: it looks like the photo could be in a catalog!

super creative! we have a fabric one, but i decided to not fill it this year b/c i know my 2 year old will be nagging us all day to get the candy out of the next pocket! he doesn't yet practice patience!

Yes this definitely beats our paper advent chain. A fun activity would be so much more exciting than ripping off a chain link each night!

Thanks for posting this! I was so curious to see what you'd come up with after reading your tweet about it. I love the thought of doing something special each day. Adorable advent calendar. It's almost as cute as those kids (*wink*).
